Milan spent two weeks at the University of Tromsø in order to conduct an overwintering experiment similar in design to the one he already did in Ny-Ålesund. For this experiment he is gathering 𝘍𝘶𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘶𝘴 instead.
Our PhD student Max tells about what our Polar cod eat and how they live in the aquariums, and how this translates to the Arctic ecosystem
This summer, UK broadcaster ITV visited Ny-Ålesund to film a documentary about the warming Arctic climate. The documentary features the fish experiment of our PhD student Max Willems.
During her year on Svalbard, our PhD student Max Willems did swimming experiments with Polar cod to find out how they are affected by temperature changes.

Max talks about her research, her daily life on the archipelago, and how being on Svalbard changed her perspective on life.
To investigate the influence of warmer temperatures on overwintering mode in surface sediments, we are conducting experiments in the lab and fjord. We overwintered sediments at different temperatures and are now waking them up under different conditions.
Take a look at the seasonal changes of the coastal sampling site where our PhD student Milan collects algae for his experiments.
