YESSS project leader Clara Hoppe notes heatwavve in Kongsfjorden
YESSS-scientist Clara Hoppe is back in Ny-Ålesund this spring to conduct her annual spring bloom monitoring in the Kongsfjord. While the phytoplankton bloom seems to be late this year as the main event in this annual cycle, Clara experienced surprisingly warm temperatures in both air and fjord. Based on conversations during the joint meal times in the village, an interdisciplinary group of oceanographers, biologists, glaciologist and snow scientists has formed to jointly to understand the effect of such a heat wave on the Kongsfjorden system in spring.
