PhD student Milan Beck gave a presentation at the Überseemuseum in Bremen

On February 16th 2026, our PhD student Milan Beck gave a presentation at the Überseemuseum in Bremen about his experience working on Svalbard. The presentation was a part of a series of talks in the winter semester 25/26, organised by the NWV  (Naturwissenschaftlicher Verein zu Bremen – nwv-bremen.de). It is a cooperation with the Übersee-Museum, the UN Decade of Marine Research for Sustainable Development and the Universität Bremen. Students can get credit points by visiting these lectures. The overarching topic: The Future Seas.

Milan talked about the YESSS project and his year-round algal field work. The idea was to present data, and also discuss the project’s aim of understanding how temperature-related stress drives changes in Arctic fjord ecosystems. Additionally Milan shared what it was like to live and work in the Arctic, and to experience the seasonal changes firsthand.
