Senior Researcher Laura Epp in an Interview with Regio TV from Bodensee
Regio TV Bodensee, based in Ravensburg, is a regional private TV Station covering the entire area between Allgäu and Black Forest, including the Lake Konstanz. In August, our senior researcher Laura Epp gave an interview to Regio TV with support from our PhD students, who filmed the interview, having done media training previously.
In this TV interview, Prof. Dr Laura Epp from University of Konstanz, a senior researcher on the project, highlighted the significance of this research. With the Arctic warming at an alarming rate due to climate change, the effects on flora and fauna are becoming increasingly important to understand. The Kongsfjorden provides a unique opportunity for researchers, as it has not frozen over since 2006. This change enhances the accessibility for sampling and studying the region’s biodiversity throughout the entire annual cycle
Laura explained that the team will face unique challenges during their research, including extreme conditions where the sun neither sets nor rises at certain times of the year. However, the anticipation of investigating the life cycles of these organisms is what drives the project forward. Its goal is to gather invaluable data that could clarify how species adapt to rising temperatures — an understanding that is vital not only in theoretical contexts but also for practical implications in conservation and climate adaptation.
