Media Students and Polar Researchers Work Together to Shape Climate Narratives
In the winter semester 2023-2024, the University of Bremen hosted a unique media seminar focused on the power of constructive journalism in shaping climate change narratives. The seminar, led by lecturer and YESSS communication lead Christoph Sodemann, brought together a diverse group of media students with a shared passion for impactful storytelling.
The course took a hands-on approach, tasking the students with crafting innovative communication ideas for the YESSS project. Members of the research team, including YESSS project lead Dr. Clara Hoppe and project designer Melanie Wupperman, engaged the students in lively dialogues and shared firsthand knowledge of the project’s goals, communication approach, and research methods. A special excursion to the Alfred-Wegener-Institute (AWI) in Bremerhaven provided an immersive experience, further deepening the students’ understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing polar research.
The impact of this collaboration is already visible. The fresh perspectives and creative energy of the media students are woven into the YESSS project’s communication efforts, contributing to the engaging content you see on our social media channels and other outreach initiatives.
